Gardening Training in Meghri: Summary

Fruitful garden

Another training session under the “Fruitful Garden” project was held in the Meghri community of Syunik Region. The three-day training took place in Meghri on June 14, 15, and 16, bringing together residents from the settlements of Vahravar, Tkhkut, Lichk, Meghri, Shvanidzor, Agarak, and Alvank. A total of 42 participants who had submitted application forms took part in the training, including 12 women.

The main topics of the three-day training sessions included traditional and intensive horticulture, orchard planning, crop and variety selection, soil preparation, irrigation and fertilization systems, pruning methods, plant protection, as well as measures for reducing and managing the impact of adverse weather conditions.

The “Fruitful Garden” initiative is aimed at developing the skills and capacities of residents engaged in horticulture. The project seeks to empower communities by creating sustainable livelihoods, improving food security, and promoting self-sufficiency among rural populations through strengthening the horticultural skills, capacities, and knowledge of residents in Armenia’s Syunik Region.

Participants of the training also received the “Fundamentals of Horticulture: Practical Handbook.”


The “Fruitful Garden” project was implemented by UNDP “Sustainable Communities” programme with financial support from the Russian Federation.
