In 2024, the “Fruitful Garden” project was launched under the “Sustainable Communities” programme in response to a request from the municipality of Kapan community. The project aims to enhance horticultural skills among rural residents in the Syunik and Vayots Dzor regions. Field assessments revealed that many gardeners in these regions continue to use outdated techniques, leading to low-quality produce and considerable losses. To address this, the project was developed in cooperation with local self-government bodies to introduce a targeted gardening skills course.
The course provides participants with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills in both traditional and intensive gardening methods. Key topics include garden planning and planting, cultivation techniques, pruning, irrigation, pest and disease management, weather-related risk mitigation, and harvesting.
The training is delivered over two days: the first day focuses on theoretical instruction, while the second involves hands-on practice in community gardens. Participants receive certificates upon completion of the course. By promoting modern and efficient gardening practices, the “Fruitful Garden” project contributes to improved agricultural productivity, reduced crop losses, and increased food security and economic resilience in rural communities.
