The renovation and construction of social housing are crucial for addressing the urgent needs of refugees and vulnerable people, ensuring they have access to safe and dignified living conditions. In Masis, Ararat region, 18 modern apartments were constructed within a former sports school, funded by UNDP and the UN Global Emergency Response Fund. These units now accommodate over 70 refugees, providing contemporary and comfortable housing solutions.
The former Nursing Home of Haghtanak settlement in Tavush region has been transformed into a home for dozens of homeless people and refugees. Since 1976, the building had not seen any renovations, leaving its old wooden doors and windows worn out or missing entirely, posing safety and insulation concerns. With the financial support of the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund, UNDP replaced all the old doors, windows, and entrance doors. Construction is ongoing, currently focusing on replacing the old roof in close cooperation with the community. Currently, 26 families call this building home.
The Haghtanak Care Center in Armenia was also renovated by UNDP, improving living conditions for over 60 elderly individuals, including refugees from Nagorno Karabakh. The renovation included installing new doors and windows, improving the exterior, replacing water and sewer lines, and fully renovating rooms and bathrooms.
