The UNDP Sustainable Communities programme, with financial support from the Government of Japan, is implementing the “Fruitful Soil” initiative in Masis community, Ararat region, within the framework of “The Project for Promoting Agricultural Development for Displaced Karabakh Armenians and Affected Host Communities in Armenia”.
The initiative provides for five professional training courses for residents of Masis community:
- Soil Quality and Effective Plant Nutrition
- Pest and Disease Management
- High-Value Crop Production
- Cultivation of Tomatoes, Peppers and Other Solanaceous Crops
- Cultivation of Cucumbers and Other Cucurbit Crops
A total of 665 applications were received from Masis community residents for the five announced training courses. The UNDP team has met with residents in various settlements of Masis community to present ongoing and upcoming initiatives.
Given the unprecedented number of applications, the programme’s experts will review all submissions. The dates and times of each of the five training courses will be announced separately in the next phase.
Following the trainings, a new initiative, “NEXUS Masis: Greenhouse”, will be announced in Masis community. Residents who have participated in the previous five training courses will receive a five-point advantage in the selection process if they have attended all five courses.
