The UNDP Sustainable Communities programme team met with the administrative heads of settlements in Masis community at the Masis Municipality and presented in detail the trainings being implemented within the framework of the “Fruitful Soil” initiative.
During the meeting, Masis Community Head Norayr Hakobyan welcomed the close cooperation between UNDP and the Masis Municipality, highlighting the importance of implementing the new project and creating new opportunities for community residents.
Within the framework of the “Fruitful Soil” initiative, five professional trainings are being offered to residents of Masis community:
- Soil Quality and Effective Plant Nutrition
- Pest and Disease Management
- High-Value Crop Production
- Cultivation of Tomatoes, Peppers and Other Solanaceous Crops
- Cultivation of Cucumbers and Other Cucurbit Crops
The trainings will provide participants with practical knowledge on soil and irrigation water management, fertilisation, fertigation, water-saving irrigation, plant protection, and the selection and cultivation of modern varieties and hybrids. In addition to professional knowledge, participants will also receive support, including soil analysis funding, sticky traps, biological plant protection products, and seed packages for high-value crops and hybrid seeds for tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.

The project is implemented by UNDP with the financial support of the Government of Japan, within the framework of The Project for Promoting Agricultural Development for Displaced Karabakh Armenians and Affected Host Communities in Armenia.
