UNDP’s “Sustainable Communities” programme is implementing the “Nexus Kapan 2: Expansion of the Greenhouse Entrepreneurship Cluster” initiative, which aims to further develop the greenhouse cluster established in Kapan community and strengthen economic links between rural settlements and urban markets.
As part of the initiative, a two-day professional training was held on May 19–20 at the Kapan Community Cultural Center. The training was conducted by leading specialists from the Scientific Research Center of Vegetable, Melon and Industrial Crops.
A total of 45 participants from the settlements of Achanan, Syunik, Shgharshik, Vardavank, Norashenik, Okhtar, Vanek, Arajadzor, Artsvanik, Nerkin Khotanan, Verin Khotanan, Shrvenants, Sznak, and Dzorastan in Syunik region took part in the training.
During the training, participants gained knowledge on greenhouse management, crop cultivation and care, as well as efficient agricultural production. At the end of the training, participants took an exam, and based on the results, along with an assessment of territorial opportunities, selected participants will advance to the next stage of business training.
Following the business training, 17 beneficiaries will be selected to receive 300 sq. m greenhouses to establish and develop greenhouse entrepreneurship in their communities.
