Within the framework of UNDP’s “Sustainable Communities” Solar24 project, 10 kW solar panels and 50 LED streetlights were provided to the Kosh, Ujan, Oshakan, and Voskevaz settlements of the Ashtarak community in the Aragatsotn region, as well as to the Arteni settlement of the Talin enlarged community. The 10 kW solar panels and LED streetlights will enable the community to significantly reduce electricity costs.
“The streets in our community are narrow, and before the installation of the LED streetlights, it was very dark. There was also a security concern during the evening hours. Having street lighting was a great necessity,” said Gevorg Hovsepyan, the administrative head of the Oshakan community.
The goal of the project is to modernize the energy infrastructure of communities and settlements, improve the quality of lighting, and promote safety, productivity, and general well-being.
“Now, in the densely populated streets of the village, we have full lighting during the evening hours,” said Ashot Yengibaryan, the administrative head of the Kosh community.
This year, the Solar24 program is being implemented in the Ararat, Armavir, Aragatsotn, and Kotayk regions. The project is carried out with an 80/20 co-financing ratio, where 80% of the total cost is contributed by UNDP and 20% by the community.
