New Ambulatory and Shelter in the Haytagh Settlement

Healthcare

The official opening of a fully renovated and equipped ambulatory and community shelter took place in the Haytagh settlement of Armavir region.

The initiative was implemented within the framework of the UNDP project “Support to Refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh and Host Communities in Armenia through Rehabilitation of Essential Infrastructure and Social Integration,” funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Armenia in close cooperation with the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia, Yutaka Aoki, the UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, Natia Natsvlishvili, the Governor of Armavir region, Vahram Khachatryan, and the Head of Vagharshapat community, Argishti Mekhakyan.

The project aims to improve the medical infrastructure of communities hosting refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh. The newly opened ambulatory, which has been fully renovated, furnished, and equipped with modern medical equipment, is also fitted with solar energy systems and is fully accessible for persons with disabilities, ensuring a safe and inclusive healthcare environment.

UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili expressed her gratitude to the Government of Japan for supporting various assistance initiatives implemented in Armenia. She also thanked the national partners for their effective and continuous cooperation.

The Haytagh ambulatory now serves 2,740 beneficiaries, including 60 refugees and 70 persons with disabilities, reinforcing an inclusive approach to the delivery of essential services.

The Haytagh settlement has also gained another important asset: a newly renovated community shelter built in the previously unusable basement area of the community cultural center, which had lacked even basic infrastructure. The new 450-square-meter shelter now provides a safe and properly equipped environment for community use during emergencies. Hybrid solar systems were also installed within the framework of the project, enabling operation both in grid-connected and autonomous modes. These systems ensure critical energy needs, especially during emergencies and power outages, contributing to uninterrupted lighting and communication.
