The UNDP Sustainable Communities programme, within the framework of the “Fertile Soil” initiative, is announcing a new professional training for residents of Masis community in Ararat region. The training will provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on skills for selecting high-value crops and applying effective approaches to their production. The initiative is implemented by UNDP with the financial support of the Government of Japan, within the framework of The Project for Promoting Agricultural Development for Displaced Karabakh Armenians and Affected Host Communities in Armenia.

The training topic is “Selection of High-Value Crops and Modern Technologies for Year-Round Production”. It aims to introduce effective approaches to selecting high-value crops, seasonal planning, and year-round production. The training will last 4 hours.

The following topics will be covered during the training:

• Selecting high-value crops based on market demand and production opportunities
• Selecting new and in-demand varieties and hybrids
• Production of high-value vegetable crops, including broccoli, cauliflower, arugula, lettuce varieties, etc.
• Production of leafy greens and specialty crops, including spinach, Swiss chard, kale, pak choi, etc.
• Organising winter and early spring production in greenhouses
• Key requirements for growing high-value crops, including temperature, nutrition and irrigation
• Crop rotation and planning for year-round production
• Market demand, marketing opportunities and the economic efficiency of production

Participants will also receive support, including a seed package of high-value crops.
