The UNDP Sustainable Communities programme, within the framework of the “Fertile Soil” initiative, is announcing a new professional training for residents of Masis community in Ararat region. The training will provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on skills for the effective management of soil, water and plant nutrition. The initiative is implemented by UNDP with the financial support of the Government of Japan, within the framework of the “Promoting Agricultural Development for Displaced Karabakh Armenians and Affected Host Communities in Armenia” project.
The training topic is “Assessment of Soil and Irrigation Water Quality, Improving Soil Fertility and Effective Plant Nutrition”. It aims to help residents improve soil and irrigation water quality, enhance soil fertility, and ensure effective plant nutrition. The training will last 4 hours.
The following topics will be covered during the training:
- Key soil-related challenges in the Ararat Valley and ways to address them
- The importance of soil and irrigation water analysis and interpretation of results
- Effective use of organic and mineral fertilizers
- Principles of fertigation — fertilizer application through drip irrigation
- Preparation and use of compost to improve soil fertility
- Use of biopreparations and micronutrients
- Water-saving and efficient irrigation technologies
Participants will also receive support, including co-financing for soil analysis and a soil sampling guide.
