The “Nexus Kapan” capacity-building trainings, designed for residents of Syunik settlement, have been completed in Kapan. UNDP’s “Sustainable Communities” programme announced the “Nexus Kapan: Greenhouse” initiative in the Syunik settlement of Kapan community, Syunik Region, as a pilot project introducing a new model. This model brings together the resources and capacities of rural and urban communities, fostering cooperation and creating new economic opportunities.
Twenty-two residents of the Syunik settlement applied to participate in the programme and took part in a two-day training in Kapan on the topic “Plant Cultivation in Greenhouse Conditions.” During the training, participants learned about both theoretical and practical aspects of greenhouse production, including types and structures of greenhouses, as well as the features of ventilation, irrigation, heating, shading, and other systems.
At the next stage, business trainings were conducted, during which participants learned how to develop and present greenhouse business ideas.
In the final stage, participants presented their business ideas to a selection committee, which included Arman Valesyan, UNDP “Sustainable Communities” programme Manager; Luka Ezerski, representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation; and Marat Harutyunyan, Deputy Head of Kapan Community.
Based on the results, the programme beneficiaries will soon be selected and will receive the necessary support to install greenhouses on their land plots. Within the programme framework, a practical training on plant cultivation is also planned to be held in the settlement of Darakert.
