In 2023, the UNDP “Sustainable Communities” programme expanded its “Greenhouse” initiative, targeting residents of border settlements in the Kapan, Goris, Vayk, Areni, Vardenis, and Chambarak communities across the Syunik, Vayots Dzor, and Gegharkunik regions of Armenia.
In 2024, 170 applicants enrolled in the programme and participated in theoretical courses, gaining comprehensive knowledge on the establishment and operation of thermal greenhouses.
Based on the results of a final exam, 20 pre-selected participants advanced to practical training held at the Scientific Center for Vegetable and Melon Crops. Of those, 16 beneficiaries were selected to receive greenhouses covering an area of 150 sq. m each. At this stage, each beneficiary received 450 vegetable seedlings and green seeds to initiate their own production.
Currently, greenhouse installation is underway. The thermal greenhouses are being established in the following settlements: Kapan, Khdrants, and Agarak from the Kapan community; Goris, Verishen, and Hartashen from the Goris community; Gomk and Nor Aznaberd from the Vayk community; Arpi from the Areni community; Vardenis, Sotk, Kut, and Geghamasar from the Vardenis community; and Chambarak, Ttujur, and Jil from the Chambarak community.
