A delegation of representatives from French local governments has arrived in Armenia as part of the UNDP “Support to Refugee Populations and Host Communities in Ararat and Armavir Regions” project. The 12-member delegation held official meetings with representatives of Armenian ministries and local self-government bodies to establish connections with local communities, exchange experiences, and explore opportunities for cooperation in the areas of socio-economic integration and refugee support.
At the UN Office in Armenia, the French delegation was hosted by UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili. During the meeting, she presented UNDP’s key projects and initiatives, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing the current challenges facing Armenia.
“The partnership between Armenia and France is built on a strong foundation of collaboration and shared experience. I am confident that this visit will further strengthen ties between local and national governments in both countries, enhancing support for refugees in Armenia. UNDP has been present in Armenia for 30 years and has consistently supported the people of Armenia since independence. From the very first day of the refugee crisis in 2023, UNDP, in collaboration with numerous partners, has worked to address the challenges and provide effective solutions,” stated UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili.
The delegation also met with Monica Sandri, UNHCR Representative a.i. in Armenia. During the meeting, they received a comprehensive overview of refugee support projects and engaged in discussions on refugee integration and the challenges they face. As part of their official visit, the French delegation was hosted by the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
