Nexus Kapan: The Greenhouse Project Comes to Syunik

UNDP’s “Sustainable Communities” programme announces the launch of the “Nexus Kapan” initiative. The “Nexus” model is a new programme approach developed within UNDP’s Sustainable Communities programme, which promotes cooperation and resource-sharing between rural settlements and urban centers.

At this stage, the programme will be implemented in the Syunik settlement of Kapan community. Through the nexus approach, the programme aims to support motivated individuals in establishing their own greenhouse businesses. The support includes provision of a new and modern greenhouse, practical agricultural and business training, expert consultancy, and the creation of a collaborative environment.

The support provided by the programme will include:

  • A 150 m² tunnel greenhouse

  • Free training on greenhouse agriculture and vegetable growing

  • Free business and entrepreneurship training, including business planning, marketing, finance, and pitching

  • Free consultancy on greenhouse installation

  • 450 seedlings and 8 boxes of seeds per beneficiary for production start-up

  • Ongoing consultancy and on-site professional support for 6 months

  • A 50-page manual on greenhouse agriculture

  • Participation in a greenhouse cluster with opportunities for joint activities and market access

The beneficiary’s contribution will include:

  • 500,000 AMD co-financing for the installation process.
The amount is refunded if the beneficiary installs the greenhouse independently within the agreed timeframe.

Eligible participants must be residents of the Syunik settlement of Kapan community, aged 18 and above, who:

  • Have at least 200 m² of flat homestead land with permanent access to water and electricity

  • Are ready to contribute co-financing or install the greenhouse using their own resources

  • Can organize and manage their own greenhouse business

  • Are willing to participate in all trainings and register as an Individual Entrepreneur or LLC

  • Are ready to cooperate with each other within the cluster framework

The programme plans to train up to 30 participants and provide up to 15 greenhouses (each 150 m²) to selected beneficiaries from the Syunik settlement.
